Lennox Lewis celebrates birthday today

KINGSTON, Jamaica — Former world heavyweight champion Lennox Lewis celebrates his 49th birthday today.

Lewis born in the UK of Jamaican parentage knocked out Donovan Ruddock in 1992 to take the number one contender position in the World Boxing Council (WBC) rankings eventually becoming WBC champion.

Lewis defeated World Boxing Association (WBA) and International Boxing Federation (IBF) champion Evander Holyfield in November 1999 to unify the three titles and followed up with a knockout of Mike Tyson after eight rounds in 2002.

He retired from boxing in 2003.
