Blues take derby spoils

European Football Round-Up

Jose Mourinho won another personal battle against Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger as Chelsea defeated their London rivals Arsenal 2-0 on Sunday.

Eden Hazard returned to form by earning and finishing an early penalty before Diego Costa netted his ninth goal of the season much later to seal victory. Chelsea now lead the league table by five points.

Manchester United did enough to hold off an under-performing Everton side in a 2-1 win for the Red Devils. United’s goals came from their marquee signings Angel Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, only separated by Steven Naismith’s equalising header.

Liverpool 2 – West Brom 1

Tottenham 1 – Southampton 0

Neymar-Messi combination does the trick

Two first-half strikes from Neymar and Lionel Messi sealed an easy 2-0 win at Rayo Vallecano. Despite the comfortable scoreline, Barca wasted several chances even after the home team were reduced to nine men.

Cristiano Ronaldo notched his third hat-trick in four La Liga games in Real Madrid’s 5-0 rout of Athletic Bilbao. It was another dominating display for Los Blancos, but remain four points behind the leaders Barcelona.

Lastly, three goals in 13 first-half minutes powered Valencia to a shocking 3-1 victory over defending champions Atletico Madrid.

Eibar 3 – Levante 3

Sevilla 4 – Deportivo 1

Celta Vigo 1 – Villareal 3

Bonucci volley seals thriller

Serie A leaders Juventus ended AS Roma’s unbeaten start to the season with a see-saw 3-2 victory at Juventus Stadium. The game was level 2-2 by the half-way mark as Carlos Tevez twice netted from the spot while Francesco Totti and Juan Iturbe scored for Roma. The game was then set up for a tie-breaking winner and Leonardo Bonucci provided it with a low volley on 84 minutes.

Meanwhile, Fiorentina secured their first home win of the season over Inter Milan with a thumping 3-0 win on Sunday.

AC Milan 2 – Chievo 0

Napoli 2 – Torino 1

Lazio 3 – Sassuolo 2

Dortmund disappoint again

Pierre-Michel Lasogga gave Hamburg their first win of the season with a 1-0 away win over Borussia Dortmund at Signal Iduna Park. Hamburg’s second goal of the season was just enough to lift them off the foot of the table.

Bayern Munich completed another rout in the Bundesliga on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Hannover. Robert Lewandowski scored twice in the first half while Arjen Robben netted once in each half to hand the Bavarians their 5th win in seven games.

Wolfsburg 1 – Augsburg 0

Bayer Leverkusen 2 – Paderborn 2

Hoffenheim 2 – Schalke 1
