SCORES of high school students and young, upwardly mobile employees of Corporate Jamaica are expected to join some of the island’s established managers at the John C Maxwell leadership conference to be simulcast this Friday, October 10 at the Karl Hendrickson Auditorium, Jamaica College.

The event is dubbed ‘L2 Lead’.

John C Maxwell, the American leadership guru and author, has been ranked the number one business leadership and management expert in the world this year, by Inc magazine.

This is the first time that local students have been specially invited to attend the US-based conference which will be shown simultaneously over broadband to 300 sites across the world. Jamaica College is the only location in the island that will have access to the half-day session, which is being facilitated by the newly formed Building Opportunities for Leadership Development Inc (BOLD).

“As John Maxwell-trained trainers, we at BOLD thought it would be fitting for us to host this event and to expose our future leaders to presentations by three of the world’s leading authorities on leadership development,” said Baldwin Powell, Director of Programme Alignment for BOLD. They are John C Maxwell leadership coach and author Linda Kaplan Thaler; chairman of Publicis Kaplan Thaler; and internet pioneer and author Tim Sanders.

Powell said that over the past weeks members of BOLD have been appealing to Corporate Jamaica and school principals to sponsor groups of young employees and students to attend the event, which is a once-in-a-lifetime experience as the session is also accredited by the University of Georgia for three credit hours of continuing education.

Among the group of future leaders registered to attend are 35 team leaders of Jamaica Money Market Brokers.

“We are committed not only to providing leadership resources and systems to Jamaican entities, but to young Jamaicans, a number of whom have never received training in leadership, but have shown natural skills in that area,” Powell said. “So the idea of opening up the John Maxwell ‘L2 Lead’ session to 5th and 6th formers and young leaders is part of the vision we have for effecting positive transformational change in our society”, he continued.
