Robert Darby Snr always a winner
Trainer Robert Darby Snr was once the toast of Caymanas Park especially when claiming became a part of the racing system. In recent times, circumstances have dictated less participation of Darby Snr in the profession of his choice.
On Saturday he revived memories of what used to be when his charge Smokin Man won a top-level claiming race over the five straight course. Smokin Man with Omar Walker up beat Frankenstorm and Technocat in a very fast 57.2 seconds. The win by Smokin Man came after finishing second three times in a row to the much improved Step It Up.
Smokin Man was on the second start for Darby since the start of the year.
Racing fans acknowledged the win by Darby Snr with generous applause when he entered the winner’s circle.
