Ebola has become a major concern in recent times. The virus has killed thousands of people, mainly in Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea. The World Health Organisation reports that the virus is now present in seven countries, inclusive of the US. This has increased the panic level in the Caribbean, as we all know what happens if America sneezes.

Are you fearful of Ebola?

Shanice Scaffe: Yes, I am very fearful. Anyone who understands the severity and seriousness of the virus would be worried.

Tashana McFarlane: Yes! I know we would not be able to manage it if it came to Jamaica, because we do not have the resources.

Sashana McLean: Yes, I am terrified! There is no known cure, and the people who are supposed to be experts on the subject are ‘iffy’, so how can I be relaxed?

Alex James: Of course, because there is no cure for it. It seems like a very painful way to die, and it is highly contagious, so I am very fearful.

Javon Salmon: I am only fearful if it comes to Jamaica, as I do not plan to travel anytime soon. It is a highly contagious virus, with a high casualty rate. Everyone should be fearful.

Ronn Campbell: Yes, definitely. Because it is a fatal virus, and Jamaica does not have the resources to control it if it gets here. The island is very small, and it would spread rapidly.
