St James, Harbour View in women’s showdown

ST James Women’s Academy and Harbour View Football Club are expected to be in a fierce battle that will highlight Zone B fixtures on match day 10 of the Sherwin Williams Women’s Premier League which resumes today.

Both teams are locked on 10 points with Harbour View currently in fourth place with a superior goal difference having played one game less.

However, St James Women’s should be better suited by the home advantage after holding their opponents to a 2-2 draw when playing away in an earlier fixture.

Harbour View’s Shavell Martin and Petagaye Soman with 10 goals between them should keep the hosts on the back foot, while Kadian Grant and Janae Elliott will carry the fight in attack for the home team in what should be a closely contested encounter.

Meanwhile, third-placed UWI Women’s FC (13 points) will seek to put a dent in the unbeaten record of group leaders GC Foster College (24 points). GC Foster College came out 1-0 victors when the two teams last met, and if that result is anything to go by, then fans should be in for a treat with UWI Women’s now having home court advantage.

Meanwhile, second-placed Los Perfectos FC (15 points) should again get the better of Boys’ Town FC who are rooted at the bottom of the table on one point. Sixth-placed Real Morant Strikers (two points) will be the zone’s

resting team.

Over in Zone A, third-placed Arnett Gardens FC (18 points) will be hoping to exact revenge when they welcome leaders Barbican FC (21 points), following their previous 0-1 loss to the mid-season champions. They will rely heavily on the prowess of Shantel Bailey (five goals), Asheina Nelson and Sadee Lewis, who have three goals each to achieve this feat.

However, the likes of leading goal scorers Tashana Vincent (nine goals) and Shanique Smith (five goals) should prove a handful for Arnett Gardens as the defending champions will want to maintain their unbeaten run.

In other games, sixth-placed Portmore Strikers (six points) will welcome fifth-placed Olympic Gardens (six points) in what should be a closely contested encounter, while fourth-placed Trelawny Women’s (seven points) should brush aside cellar dwellers Rangers FC (one point). Second-placed Waterhouse FC (19 points) will be idle.

All games are set to begin at 3:00 pm.

Today’s schedule

*Rangers FC vs Trelawny Women’s FC @ St Mary’s Complex

*Portmore Strikers vs Olympic Gardens @ Racing Oval

*Arnett Gardens FC vs Barbican FC @ Anthony Spaulding Complex
