Sagicor donates fever machine to Ebola preparedness
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Sagicor Jamaica Limited has announced the purchase, and donation of a fever scan machine to the Ministry of National Security to aid in the detection of Ebola.
The announcement was made at a joint press conference with the Minister of National Security at Sagicor’s Head Office Tuesday, a news release from Sagicor said.
The body scanning machine is valued at US$38,000. It uses an infra-red technology to detect individuals with elevated body temperatures.
Richard Byles, president and chief executive officer of the Sagicor Group Jamaica, said: “We are concerned for the safety of all Jamaicans. The potential threat of this health hazard is something that requires a collective effort and our purchase and donation of this equipment is part of our contribution to the welfare of the entire Jamaican society.”
Meanwhile, Security Minister Peter Bunting said the move by Sagicor to purchase fever scan machines is a clear indication of a private sector entity recognising its crucial role in support of public safety and security.
