THE Jamaica Cultural Development Commission (JCDC) is set to achieve significant savings on rental costs with the acquisition of a new utility truck and equipment — funding for which was provided by the Culture, Health, Arts, Sports and Education (CHASE) Fund.

A total of $14.3 million was spent to acquire the box truck, in addition to sound equipment, a multimedia projector, projector screens and 2,000 chairs, which were handed over recently by CHASE CEO W Billy Heaven to JCDC’s Arts Development and Training Director Dorrett Thaxter at the Ranny Williams Entertainment Centre in St Andrew.

The JCDC, an agency of the Ministry of Youth and Culture, had made an application to the CHASE Fund as it pushes to become financially viable in the production of its annual events, including the Festival of the Arts and National Independence Celebrations.

At the handover, an elated Thaxter thanked the CHASE Fund for responding to the JCDC’s application.
