Animation at its best!
DESPITE last weekend’s rain, more than 300 fans turned out for the two-day Japanese Anime Festival in Kingston.
Masanori Nakano, Japanese ambassador to Jamaica, was pleased with the attendance.
“The large turnout is an indication of the growing love for anime among the Jamaican people,” he said.
The first day took place Saturday at the St Andrew High School for Girls’ Audio/Visual Centre. The second was held at Liguanea Club on Sunday.
The Japanese Anime Festival featured six films of different themes, styles and length. However, it was the 1978 classic, Science Ninja Team Gatchaman, that ruled both nights.
The movie, Battle of the Planets (better known in the west as G-Force) was also well-received.
Other standouts were Komaneko: The Curious Cat and Katushiro
Otomo’s SOS! Tokyo Metro Explorer.
The latter lived up to his moniker as Japan’s Walt Disney with his multi-layered artwork and smooth, detailed animation.
