V‚ building her Empire
SHE may have come into our homes via the weekly American hit television series Empire, but Atlanta-born singer Veronika Bozeman is slated to make her Jamaican debut at Caribbean FashionWeek (CFW) at the National Indoor Sports Centre in St Andrew, on Friday, June 12.
And V, as she’s affectionately called, promises a super set.
“Patrons should expect a high-energy show an authentic show, and chance for me to connect with the people,” she told the Jamaica Sunday Observer.
CFW began last Friday and continues until June 16. Now in its 15th year, the event showcases the region’s best designers, models and stakeholders who have assisted in elevating Caribbean fashion worldwide.
Trinidad and Tobago-born British singer Billy Ocean is also billed for the CFW event.
Bozeman will also be strutting the runway donning pieces from one of the emerging designers.
The R&B singer plays the role of an upstart vocalist, Veronica, in the television series which follows a family founded hip hop music and entertainment company, Empire Entertainment. The drama stars Terrence Howard and Taraji P Henson.
Her riveting performance of the ballad What Is Love in the opening scene earned her the second-highest downloaded track from the series. She is also back in the plot for second season beginning in September.
“I’m excited being on the show, and you guys will get to see more of my character this season,” she said.
Bozeman attributes her rising fortunes to two sources: one heavenly and the other more earthly.
“I owe it to God first and foremost! And Timbaland being placed in my life and introducing me to Empire’s executive producers Lee Daniels and Danny Strong. Also staying faithful to my craft,” she said.
Despite a heavy schedule, the singer is busy in the recording studio with her projects.
“Right now, I am finishing my album and working with Tyrese (Gibson) on the soundtrack to the film Shame. Of course, I am working with Timbaland on our Opera Noir album,” she said.
Her other tracks include Poison, Race Jones and ‘Till The End of Time, featuring Timothy Bloom.
Opera Noir is the name of producer Timbaland’s fourth studio album. The set also includes Jay Z, Drake, Justin Timberlake and Pharrell Williams. A release date for the set is yet to be given.
“I hope to be one of the biggest global soul artistes of our time,” she said.
The singer said she is familiar with reggae and loves the music of Damian ‘Junior Gong’ Marley.
“I hope I really get that opportunity to work with him,” she told the Sunday Observer.
For young aspiring acts, she also had a word of advice: “Perfect your craft, surround yourselves with people who have a good intention for your future, and never take it for granted.”
