Kensington CC are through to the semi-finals of the Jamaica Cricket Association two-day Senior Cup competition after claiming first innings honours versus St Catherine CA in their drawn rescheduled encounter which ended on Sunday at Chedwin Park.

David Bernard, the Kensington captain, struck an unbeaten 103 to propel his team to 333-8 declared against St Catherine CA on Saturday’s opening day of the quarter-final. National fast bowler Jason Dawes then grabbed four wickets, including a hat-trick, to help dismiss the St Catherine team for 192.

Resuming Sunday on 14 without loss, St Catherine CA’s lone resistance came from the middle-order pair of Kemar Marshall and national batsman Nkrumah Bonner, who added 112 runs for the fourth wicket. Both contributed 64 runs.

But their dismissal signaled the end as the in-form Dawes finished with 4-35. His pace bowling opening partner Nicholson Gordon claimed 2-16.

Batting a second time, Kensington closed on 43-1 as Anthony Wadsworth, who struck a fluent half-century in the first innings, made 25 not out.

St Catherine CA’s seam bowler Shannor Douse took the lone wicket to fall when he bowled Leroy Lugg for eight.

The clash between St Catherine CA and Kensington at Ewarton had to be replayed after the latter appealed the no-result. Kensington successfully argued that hosts St Catherine CA, who had a better record in the preliminary stage, had unfair advantage when water — due to heavy rain — seeped onto the pitch and significantly reduced playing time, which forced the no-result.

Kensington will battle home team St Catherine CC at Chedwin Park for a place in the final in two weeks’ time. Reigning champions Jamaica Defence Force are already through to the championship match after getting by last season’s beaten finalists Kingston CC in the other semi-final.
