t’App That

LINE

From the beginning of time, when computers were only stationary, man or in this case teen, used various methods to communicate via the Internet. MySpace and Hi5 are two of the now prehistoric social media platforms which were frequented by teens like yourself back in the day. Some of you are probably scratching your head because most of you have never heard of these websites, but without these stepping stones to start the trend there might have been no Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or this brilliant app we’re about to introduce you to right now. We’re talking about LINE.

Now don’t let the simple name fool you, because this app is anything but. This social media app can be described as a combination of all the more popular ones. A little bit of Twitter and Facebook, because users receive a timeline and a homepage when they sign up. On here they get to post pictures and statuses for the people they have on their friends list.

The app also has features reminiscent to WhatsApp, where users are able to direct message each other, using text, emoticons or stickers. Users are also able to send and receive both audio and video calls for free, a feature WhatsApp hasn’t quite perfected yet.

Snap chat, Instagram and even Vine come into play for users are able to record stop motion videos and add background music to the finished product.

LINE also provides a feature called hidden messages, where messages disappear from the devices of all the individuals involved in the chat after a period a time specified by the user. Which is kind of a bad thing for parents who want to snoop, but an over all good thing for the average teen. Users are also able to change the theme on their LINE profiles.

The convenient thing about this app is that it is accessible throughout all your electronics – phone, tablet and personal computer. This is because its Japanese developers invented it as an alternative means for communication after the phone lines were rendered useless in Japan after an earthquake in 2011. It is also available on iOS, BlackBerry, Android and Windows software.

So make your way on over to the app store and indulge yourself in an amazing app. This is one line you won’t regret joining.
