Parchment happy with progress
Almost lost in the celebrations of Omar McLeod’s magnificent world-leading 12.97-second run, in the men’s 110m hurdles final on Saturday night at the JAAA National Senior Trials at the National Stadium, was Hansle Parchment’s 13.08 seconds, the third best in the world at the time.
Parchment, the Olympic Games bronze medallist and top-ranked last year, when he lowered the National
Record to 12.94 seconds, appears on his way back from
a two-year battle with an ankle problem.
Parchment had badly twisted his left ankle while warming up in a poorly lit Stadium East field while getting ready for the finals of the JAAA Senior Trials in 2013. While he recovered well enough to get past the first round of the World Championships in Moscow, Russia, he hit a hurdle in the semi-finals and had a further setback.
On Saturday he told the Jamaica Observer that he was pleased with his present form.
“I feel really good (with my run tonight), I am proud of myself. All season I have not been running how I wanted to because of some minor setbacks, but I have been working on them daily and I feel like I have been getting back.”
Saturday’s run, he claimed, “tells me I am not as injured as I thought”.
Parchment he used his experience to his benefit in his last race.
“I remembered a few things that I have done in races before, and I just came out and thought about execution and getting this race in and still have time to work on preparing for the World Championships,” he noted.
“This was a really good run for me… I just need my body to join up with my mind,” he concluded.
