All systems go for Dover

All systems go for Dover

DOVER Raceway is slated to come alive on Heroes weekend (October 19) with its 25th anniversary meet — Heroes of Speed: Back To The Good Old Days.

Meet organiser Dean Corrodus is looking forward to a jam-packed venue as he promises motorsports fans an awesome show.

“All systems are go and the necessary preparations have been put in place to ensure a smooth running event,” said Corrodus.

Being the last meet of the year and a milestone one, Corrodus is intent on making the St Ann event a memorable one for racing fans.

Racing fans will be in for a super treat as Doug ‘Hollywood’ Gore in his Audi DTM from Team MoBay Racing and David ‘The King’ Summerbell Jr in his Time Attack Mitsubishi Evolution have both vowed to shatter the track record. A cash award of $50,000 will be given to anyone who does.

The record is currently lap record is one minute 17.019 seconds and is held by Gore. The time is roughly half-a-second faster than the previous record held by Summerbell.

Racing legend Clinton ‘Pinky’ McGann believes the record can be lowered.

“I believe Doug Gore can certainly lower the (track) record as he is a seasoned driver with a capable machine. David (Summerbell) must not be discounted as he has considerable track experience and has been racing at Dover from the track was dirt. As long as his car remains reliable, he has an equal shot,” said McGann.

Corrodus said The Good Old Days’ theme doesn’t exclude motorsports’s new blood.

“Look out for Chris-John Addison, Nicholas Barnes and Fraser McConnell who are coming with the intention to show their skills,” he said.

Patrons are encouraged to come out in their numbers and first-time sponsor JN General Insurance (JNGI) has a gate competition where three patrons will get a test drive around the track with Natasha ‘Chiney Dolly’ Chang (JNGI and Texaco’s brand ambassador) and Douglas ‘Hollywood’ Gore.

Chang is eager to get back on the track as she missed the last Dover meet due to her car being in transit from a race meet in Trinidad.

“The car feels really good. For me, each race is a lesson. Trinidad taught me a few new things about my car and how it handles. I’m ready to put what I’ve learned to the test and end the year on a high. Next year, I’ll be coming with a new surprise,” said Chang.
