KINGSTON, Jamaica –The Jamaica Medical Doctors Association (JMDA) in a press release today, said that they welcome the decision of the Office of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Health to reveal the findings of the health audit to the nation.Read:PM tells Fenton to release Health Audit Report tomorrow

According to the release, JMDA said that as personnel on the ground, they have a comprehensive working knowledge of the deficits and challenges faced by patients and workers within the current healthcare system.

They added: “We have been consistently lobbying for these issues to be addressed with meaningful and sustainable solutions, and hope that the audit’s release will be the first step towards a collaborative effort between the MOH and all Jamaicans to achieving that objective”.

In the release they added that they remain committed to, at all time, providing the best healthcare possible in spite of the many limitations facing the health sector. We believe the findings of the audit will assist us as practitioners to improve the service we provide and the health sector at large.

“We envision the findings will not be seen as an indictment on any one institution or group but will empower concerned stakeholders to attain meaningful and long-term solutions to the deficits identified,” the release ended.

Yesterday, Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller had given instructions for Health Minister Dr Fenton Ferguson to publish to the nation today, the report of the audit of the health sector which he had commissioned earlier this year.
