Cops clamp down on traffic violators in western Jamaica
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Police late Tuesday carried out a massive operation in the western section of the island, prosecuting more than 200 people for various breaches of the Road Traffic Act.
Head of the Jamaica Constabulary Force’s Traffic Division, Senior Superintendent of Police Calvin Allen, said the operation was dubbed the ‘Traffic Enforcement and Anti-crime Initiative’.
Under the initiative, police officers and other Government agencies were out in their numbers on streets in and around Westmoreland.
“During the operation, we prosecuted 335 breaches of the Road Traffic Act,” SSP Allen told OBSERVER ONLINE.
The police said, during the clampdown, they also removed some 35 pairs of plates from motor vehicles after the owners were found committing traffic violations.
Approximately 550 people were searched during the operation and several motor vehicles were also seized.
