KINGSTON, Jamaica – The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) today commenced face-to-face negotiations with delinquent customers during its 12 Days of Amnesty Roadshow, which runs until December 19, 2015.

A press release from the light and power company on Wednesday said, during this period, customers can visit JPS parish offices on Wednesdays and Saturdays and negotiate up to 70 per cent write-off of the amounts owed to the company.

The JPS Debt Amnesty programme started on November 4 with telephone negotiations.

“During the amnesty, JPS will assist residential and small commercial customers (Rates 10 and 20), who are indebted to the company, to regain active status, power supply in time for Christmas and become debt-free to the company by the new year,” the JPS release said.

Rate 10 and 20 customers who owe in excess of $50,000 as at August 31, 2015 and have had their service disconnected, will qualify to apply for amnesty, the release continued. Also, residential and small commercial customers with active accounts who owe more than $100,000 for over 60 days, as at August 31, 2015, may apply for the amnesty.

“It is our ultimate goal to make every JPS customer, a debt-free customer and happy on our grid,” said Tishan Lee, head of Marketing at JPS. “We will use the amnesty to further educate our customers about energy efficiency, conservation and better ways to manage their energy consumption in order to avoid the need for future amnesty.”
