Man accused of attacking cop inside station to stand trial
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A mason accused of assaulting a police officer while he was detained at the Hunts Bay Police Station in St Andrew, is to stand trial next year.
Twenty-seven-year-old Kemar Smith pleaded not guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and assaulting a police officer.
Reports are that on October 20, Smith was taken into custody for the offence of being armed with an offensive weapon.
While he was being processed by the police officer, he reportedly attacked a constable, hitting him in the face.
He was restrained and placed in custody.
When he appeared in court on Friday, he denied the allegations.
A January 21 trial date was subsequently set.
