3 plead guilty to breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Three people who were charged for various breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act on Wednesday, October 28, today appeared before the courts.
They are: 48-year-old contractor Trevor Wallace, of Georges Plain, Westmoreland; Claris Wilson; and 53-year-old Patricia Ricketts, an office attendant of Catadupa in St James.
The police have said that the charges stem from an investigation by the Westmoreland Proactive Investigations Unit into the activities of suspected lottery scammers.
During a raid and subsequent follow-up probes, investigators reportedly found evidence which suggested that breaches of the Proceeds of Crime Act had occurred and the charges were laid.
Wallace, Wilson and Ricketts appeared before the court where they pleaded guilty to cash transaction in excess of J$1 million.
Wilson was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment or a fine of J$150,000, while Wallace and Ricketts are set for sentencing on Wednesday, February 3, 2016.
