Man fined for selling one-bedroom structure twice
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A man accused of selling a one-bedroom, concrete structure twice was fined J$100,000 when he appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Roderick Samuels, a resident of Savage Pen district in rural St Andrew, pleaded guilty to obtaining money by means of false pretence.
Reports are that on September 7, Samuels sold the structure for J$70,000.
He had reportedly sold the same structure in 2013 for J$55,000.
Prior to sentencing, Senior Magistrate Judith Pusey asked Samuels: “Is there any reason you should not go prison?”
Samuels told the court that he has an 11-year-old daughter.
“What about what you did?” Pusey asked. “Most of the persons in prison have children.”
He was subsequently fined J$100,000 or six months in prison.
