More lottery scammers charged in St Elizabeth
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica — Lawmen attached to the St Elizabeth Proactive Investigations Unit (PIU) charged three people under the Law Reform (Fraudulent Transactions) (Special Provisions) Act with knowingly possessing identity information on Wednesday.Read: Lottery scammers charged in St Elizabeth
They are: 29-year-old farmer Kenroy Banton, otherwise called ‘Bupsy’, of Gazeland district in St Elizabeth; 28-year-old Demar Spencer, otherwise called ‘Frass’, also a farmer from Farm district in Manchester; and 20-year-old farmer Richard Grant, otherwise called ‘Juvie’, of Top Hill district in St Elizabeth.
On Sunday, the St Elizabeth police charged two other people for lottery scamming.
Reports are that about 4:30 am, an operation was conducted in the Bellevue Housing Scheme in St Elizabeth, during which premises occupied by the men was searched. The police say six cellular phones and sheets of paper containing identity information of people living in the United States of America were found.
Paraphernalia related to lottery scamming activities were also seized, the police say.
The men were subsequently arrested and charged.
All three are scheduled to appear before the Santa Cruz Resident Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, December 8.
