Bus driver accused of assaulting baby mother over child support
A 37-year-old bus driver was taken before the court for reportedly battering the mother of his child after she went to him for maintenance money.
Thirty-seven-year-old Frederick Hibbert is accused of striking the complainant in her face repeatedly and squeezing her throat.
The court heard that in November the complainant went to meet Hibbert to collect money for their 10-month-old son.
The complainant reportedly went into the bus that Hibbert was driving and, after the passengers had disembarked, sat inside the bus talking to Hibbert about the baby when he started arguing about her being disrespectful to his mother in the past.
An argument reportedly ensued between them during which Hibbert allegedly slapped the complainant in her face, causing swelling.
Following that, Hibbert reportedly gave the complainant $4,000 and told her to leave.
She left the bus and while she was walking away said to him, “Frederick, you think $4,000 can do the baby for one year?”
Hibbert reportedly exited the bus and chased and held the complainant, grabbed her by her shoulder and threw her against a wall.
He reportedly grabbed her throat and squeezed it, while using one of his hands to pound her in her face.
A crowd reportedly converged at the scene and Hibbert’s cousin intervened and pulled the accused away from the complainant.
The complainant reported the matter to the police and Hibbert was charged with unlawful wounding.
On Tuesday when he appeared in court he pleaded not guilty and his bail was extended for him to return to court for trial on February 5.
