RGD hosts ‘Death Symposium’ today
THE Registrar General’s Department (RGD) will today host a Death Symposium at the Holy Trinity Church, Westgate in Montego Bay, St James.
“This symposium aims to educate the public on the steps involved in handling matters pertaining to death; that is, from the moment death occurs to registering the death at the RGD,” the agency said in a press release yesterday.
“Participants at the symposium will be taken through each step in the process, by way of presentations from the various stakeholders involved,” the RGD added.
Apart from the RGD, presenters will be drawn from other areas, including the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Government pathology Department, Legal Medicine Unit, parish council, the church, courts and insurance sector.
“Death is a life event, of which many persons do not know the correct procedures to follow when it occurs. The RGD is aware that this information is important, and is playing a pivotal role to help persons understand the procedures involved, thereby making the process a less stressful one. Through this symposium, all the stakeholders involved in the process will be in one setting providing all the necessary information and answering questions from participants,” the RGD said.
The symposium, which will be free to the public, will run from 12 noon to 3:00 pm.
