Mothers of 19 dead babies plan protest
KINGSTON, Jamaica – The mothers of the 19 babies who died from a bacterial outbreak at health facilities in Jamaica are expected to protest tomorrow at the University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) and at the Ministry of Health’s office in Kingston.
The protest is slated to begin 10:30 am at the UHWI and later from 12:00-1:00pm at the Health Ministry.
According to a press release from the group who refer to themselves as “Mothers and Friends of the 19”, the protest is not only because of the outbreak of Klebsiella and Serratia bacteria, which resulted in the death of the 19 babies, but also because of what they describe as the continued neglect from both health facilities.
