NEWLY appointed Minister of Labour and Social Security Shahine Robinson has promised an open-door policy and a free flow of communication during her tenure at the ministry.

Robinson also called for teamwork to reposition the ministry to deal with the challenges it will face in meeting the growth agenda and the targets set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) under the External Fund Facility agreement with the Government of Jamaica.

The minister made the calls Wednesday as she met with members of staff of the ministry, whom she charged to deliver quality service in their efforts to improve the lives of Jamaicans.

“Working together as a team and in partnership with each other, we can reposition the ministry, given its critical importance in the country’s growth agenda and the IMF programme,” she said.

She added that she will be working on a schedule to meet with ministry staff in all parish offices, as well as tripartite partners and other portfolio associates, in maintaining an “open-door policy and an open flow of communication”.

Robinson is the second female minister of labour and social security, following in the footsteps of current Leader of the Opposition Portia Simpson Miller, who served both ministries between 1989 and 1993 under the then People’s National Party Administration.
