Aaron Chatrie makes it a triple play
Jockey Aaron Chatrie is currently enjoying the best form of his riding career and this was exemplified on Saturday when he rode a triple selection of winners to highlight the 12-race programme at Caymanas Park.
Chatrie started his triple in the third aboard the Gary Subratie-trained Classy Aviator in Division One of a maiden special weight event for native-bred three-year-old fillies over 1,200 metres.
Classy Aviator (Seeking The Glory – Classy Chanel) powered home to score by nine lengths overRunning Star and Flying Machine in a time of 1:14:3 minutes.
“The race was an easy one for her (Classy Aviator) as she was much better than this field. Based on her last run against better horses, she was a 1-9 banker in this field,” Chatrie said.
Chatrie’s success continued in the eighth race when he steered Golden Glory (Seeking The Glory – The Golden One), also trained by Subratie, to an 11½-length win over Like A Lady and Patch in Division Two of the same maiden special weight event. The winning time was 1:14:2 minutes.
“The performance by Golden Glory was good as she just destroyed the field when we picked up the lead turning for home. Once we got a clean break and were close to the lead approaching the home bend, I knew that we were going to win pretty easily,” Chatrie explained to the Complete Racing Guide.
The Victor Williams-trained Zeeva then put the icing on the cake for Chatrie in the 12th event, a claiming ($350,000-$300,000) race over 1,000 metres straight.
Zeeva (Shuffling Madness – Lady Sharka) won ahead of Agahkan and Gold Screw in a time of 1:00:1 minutes.
“The feeling is really great to win three races in one day. I have been working really hard of late and I am happy that all my dedication and determination in the sport are paying off. I will continue to do the necessary hard work to better myself,” Chatrie said.
With those three winners, Chatrie took his tally to 13 winners, tied with champion jockey Shane Ellis in third position in the standing behind three-time champion Dane Nelson (20 winners) and four-time champion Omar Walker (15 winners).
