NAJ seeks gov’t intervention to curb migration of nurses
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Nurses of Jamaica (NAJ) is seeking an early meeting with representatives of the new government to discuss initiatives to curb the continued movement of nurses overseas.
President of the NAJ, Janet Farr says initiatives must be developed to keep nurses in Jamaica instead losing them to overseas entities.
The NAJ president indicated that more and more registered nurses were leaving Jamaican shores after completing their training, as there is no retention policy for nurses.
“This association is being challenged to identify critical issues including factors influencing retention and motivation of our nurses. A retention strategy is very necessary,” Farr said when she was elected to the post of president.
