Richard Powell appointed pro-chancellor of UTech
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Senator Ruel Reid, minister of Education, Youth and Information, has announced the appointment of Richard Powell as pro-chancellor of the University of Technology, Jamaica (UTech), for the period April 1, 2016 to March 31, 2019.
As pro-chancellor, Powell will perform the role of chair of the University Council. The Chancellor of the University is Edward Seaga.
Noting that the period of Powell’s appointment will be challenging, Minister Reid said he had “every confidence” that he will successfully manage the task.
Powell, a career senior executive in the financial sector, recently retired as president and chief executive officer of Victoria Mutual Building Society.
