Franfield set to establish dominance
The Legal Light trophy, tomorrow’s feature race, provides last year’s Superstakes winner Franfield the opportunity to establish his dominance over Horse of the Year Seeking My Dream, and the well-established and seasoned Perfect Neighbour.
The race, which will be run over nine furlongs and 25 yards, is yet another chance to earn valuable stakes money for possible inclusion in the Diamond Mile in December.
When Franfield, Seeking My Dream and Perfect Neighbour last met on March 12 over seven and a half furlongs, it was Franfield who prevailed on his first run for the season.
The Complete Racing Guide analyses the event.
Seeking My Dream – Was upstaged by Franfield on last over a journey (7 ½ furlongs) considered more to the liking of Seeking My Dream. It was thought then that regular rider Omar Walker moved too early, leavingSeeking My Dream too much to do in the last furlong. Since then, Seeking My Dream has been refreshed and is travelling nicely in the mornings. He is fit and ready for this one and Walker will not make the same error twice.Seeking My Dream has the class, but might find the distance in this company a tad worrying as there is no true front-runner in the race.
Hover Craft – Has been very active this year. Hover Craft is as tough as nails but does not have the class to compete against these.
Miracle Star – Claimed by trainer Donovan Plummer in late January and has since raced mainly in Overnight company.Miracle Star ran really well on April 9 when defeating Royal Vibes and Original Train.Miracle Star is presently in superb condition and is going to relish this two-turn event, but will probably falter against the top horses.
Long Running Train – Has been progressing to this stage with aplomb. Long Running Train, the only filly in this race, is talented and in mint condition and is poised to make her mark against the best. She raced against top company in the Harry Jackson Memorial Cup last December and only lost in the last furlong, beaten by Perfect Neighbour. In this race jockey Wesley Henry may have no choice but to put Long Running Train into the lead. This filly is going places, with the Legal Light providing the springboard to showcase her obvious class.
Perfect Neighbour – Versatile as ever with the nine furlongs of the Legal Light right up his street.Perfect Neighbour surprisingly won his last race over six furlongs on April 2, and since then has continued to draw attention on the exercise track. He is now showing the ability to run closer to the pace, and with no established leader in this one, Perfect Neighbour will again be doing his running in the straight.
Franfield – Lifted the roof when nabbing Seeking My Dream in the Chairman’s Trophy on March 12 with an electrifying stretch run. Franfield has more than proven he can perform among the best, and with the lengthening of the journey by two furlongs since his last win, the Richard Azan-trained five-year-old will be in his ackee. Franfield is a strong competitor who holds no fears and is difficult to oppose in this one.
