Met Service discontinues flash flood watch for eastern parishes
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Meteorological (Met) Service has discontinued the flash flood watch that was announced for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Thomas, Portland, St Mary, and St Ann.
One schoolgirl was found dead after she was swept away by floodwaters in St Thomas on Tuesday. The heavy rains that pelted the island also resulted in flooding and landslides, with thousands of residents being left without electricity.
In a news release Thursday, the Meteorological Service said a trough remains across Jamaica and the central Caribbean.
But, the Meteorological Service also said that satellite imagery and radar reports indicate that rainfall activity has significantly reduced across Jamaica.
The forecast is for isolated showers this morning, then scattered afternoon showers and isolated thunderstorms across central and western parishes.
The Meteorological Service says it will continue to monitor the situation.
