Slain cop laid to rest
ST ANN, Jamaica — The policeman who was shot dead at a party in White River, Ocho Rios last month was today laid to rest.
Detective Constable Shane Francis was buried at the St John’s Anglican Church Cemetery following a Thanksgiving service at the church.
Francis was shot dead during an altercation with a licensed firearm holder on April 17.
The licensed firearm holder, Kevin Harris, has since been charged with murder following post mortem reports which showed Francis was shot in the back.
At the Thanksgiving service on Thursday, calls were made for people to stop assassinating Francis’ character and for persons to stop speaking ill of the dead. The calls came after several people spoke ill of the constable on social media following his death.
The comments were said to have been influenced by the fact that Francis was involved in several shootings.
DSP Howard Simmonds, who gave the eulogy, said all investigating bodies, including the Independent Commission of Investigations, “have exonerated him of all blames”.
