Simpson Miller sympathises with France after apparent terror attack
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Leader of the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) Portia Simpson Miller has expressed sympathy and solidarity with the people and Government of France following the death of more than 80 people in an apparent terror attack yesterday.
French President Francois Hollande said Friday that “84 people are dead, and around 50 people were in a critical condition between life and death” after a lorry ploughed into crowds celebrating Bastille Day in Nice.
In a statement Thursday, Simpson Miller said acts of violence, terror and hate anywhere in the world must be condemned by all peace-loving people.
“I extend sincere condolence to the family and loved ones of those who lost their lives and pray for the full recovery in the shortest possible time, of those persons who were injured in this cowardly act,” Simpson Miller said.
She noted that the brutal and unfortunate event is even more outrageous when viewed against the background that it was carried out on Bastille Day, which marks the National Day of France and celebrates the unity of the French people.
