Trinidadian mayor pleads not guilty to driving under the influence
PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) — The mayor of the south-western town of Point Fortin, Clyde Paul, Wednesday pleaded not guilty to a charge of driving under the influence.
Paul, 72, who was represented by former police commissioner, James Philbert, appeared before Magistrate Alicia Chankar in the Point Fortin Second Magistrates Court, less than 24 hours after he was charged by the police.
The police claim that Paul, who was driving along the Southern Main Road on Tuesday night, failed a breathalyser test.
Paul, who was granted TT$5,000 (One TT dollar =US$0.16 cents) station bail, will re-appear in court on November 2.
