Phillips says gov’t being ‘less than transparent’ about IMF agreement
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Opposition Spokesman on Finance Dr Peter Phillips says the current JLP administration is less than transparent in its reporting to Parliament on developments surrounding the agreement with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Auditor General’s report on the budget.
According to a release from the People’s National Party (PNP), Phillips told the first sitting of the Standing Finance Committee (SFC) of Parliament that although the Government appears to be following the general outline of the economic reform programme started by the PNP, he is concerned about the JLP Government’s lack of reporting to Parliament on the Standby Agreement with the IMF.
Phillips reportedly told the committee that it is not right for Members of Parliament to receive that information only when it is posted by the IMF on the international organisation’s website.
Phillips also expressed concern about the absence of the Auditor General’s report on the 2017/18 budget from the first sitting of the SFC.
