Richie Loop fills cup with EDM
SINGJAY Richie Loop has moved into electronic dance music (EDM). His latest joint is Pull Up featuring 2WinBeam.
In an interview with
Jamaica Observer, he explained his decision to venture outside of dancehall and reggae.“I’ve been doing EDM almost three years now. At the time I found EDM to be an interesting mix of dancehall and soca vibe. As persons know, I am a soca lover, so it wasn’t a hard thing to do,” Richie Loop told the
Observer.“The first EDM track I did was
Hot Body Gyal with Benny Page,” he continued.Richie Loop has collaborated with a number of the genre’s global chart-topping DJs, including Hardwell, Henry Fong, Bad Royale, DJ Teddy O, DJ Stutter, Daniel Kapler, Yinon Yahel, among others. The Clarendon-reared Loop, whose real name is Richard Webb, started out as a producer before branching off to become a recording artiste. The success of his smash hit song
My Cupp would become the platform for Richie Loop’s career, where he enjoyed rotation with songs including
Summer Spazz (featuring Christopher Martin),
Party Time, and
Gyal Yuh Body Clean (all of which he produced). In late 2012 he went on a self-imposed hiatus in what he said was to rediscover and re-evaluate his goals. His return to the music scene coincided with the emergence of EDM as a genre, which was beginning to find a niche in Jamaica, the wider Caribbean and the world. Two years ago emerging EDM group Kingdumb, an eclectic collective of entertainers based in California, reached out to Richie Loop and this sparked the beginning of his EDM journey. Kingdumb morphed into Bad Royale and teamed with Richie on three EPs –
Welcome to Badlands, Before Common Era, and
Immutable Timeline.He cites the track
Drop
