Like Eileen Powell, I feel very strongly about the issues she mentioned and my sympathy goes out to both the mother and child in the recent issue making the rounds on social media.

However, in my opinion, there is still a bigger issue which is that until stringent measures are put in place to deal with our men who constantly go around ‘activating’ their organs, producing these children, bragging about it with no intention or desire to support these children, child abuse will forever exist.

Let me make it clear, I am not condoning the abuse recorded on the video with the child being beaten with a machete, but who knows the frustration these women often go through to even feed their children while the men are out their producing more.

I happened to be in court one day when a mother took the father of her child to court for child support. This young man, to me, could not be more than in his 30s. He stood up and told the judge he had 13 children and could not do any better.

In my opinion he should have been put away for the rest of his productive years.

Yes, the women also have a part to play, but we often allow our emotions to control us. Our Government gets 110 per cent for adopting the tax measures, et cetera, from abroad to oppress us, they must also emulate the measures taken to keep our men in line. The laws abroad are very deliberate.

I think there is no greater frustration than that of not being able to meet the needs of our children, and too often mothers alone are burdened with this responsibility. Something must be done.
