KINGSTON, Jamaica — The police are reporting the seizure of a Browning pistol and a Smith and Wesson revolver in separate instances in Kingston and Westmoreland yesterday.

According to the Corporate Communications Unit, a police team in Bethel Town, Westmoreland was on patrol about 10:20 pm when a man reportedly opened gunfire at them. The lawmen returned fire and the man ran.

The area was combed and a Browning Single Action 9mm pistol was found. No one was arrested in connection with the find. 

Earlier that day, police in Kingston said they were patrolling North Street about 6:40 pm when they observed the man acting in a manner that aroused their suspicion.

He was accosted, searched and a .38 Smith and Wesson revolver loaded with six .38 cartridges taken from his waistband. A search of a bag he was carrying revealed two .38 rounds of ammunition. 

The man was arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition. The police said his identity is being withheld pending further investigations.
