JTA asks Gov’t when wage negotiations will restart
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Teachers’ Association (JTA) is urging the Ministry of Finance to indicate a date, during the course of this week, when it will restart salary negotiations for the 2017 – 2019 contract period.
In a release this afternoon, the association expressed concern about the protracted delay, explaining that it received the initial offer from the Government in August, and having rejected that offer, the Government has not yet re-engaged the teachers in further negotiations.
Against the background, the JTA said that the teachers are restive; and it is therefore urging the ministry as a matter of urgency, to indicate a date.
