Would-be robber escapes from firearm holder; weapon handed over to cops
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica — An armed would-be robber made good his escape Monday after his accomplice fled the scene, leaving him to the mercy of a licensed firearm holder.
According to police, the gunman — who was the pillion rider on a motorcycle — was attempting to rob a man along the Farm Pen main road in Savannah-la-Mar, Westmoreland, when a tussle ensued between him and the intended victim.
A licensed firearm holder observed the tussle and reportedly intervened, firing shots in the air.
This resulted in the motorcyclist riding off, leaving the pillion rider, who the firearm holder held on to, the police said. However, he later escaped.
His firearm along with the ammunition was handed over to the police.
The incident occurred about 8:15 pm.
