Transport minister summons JUTC chairman over OCG probe
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Transport and Mining Minister, Lester ‘Mike’ Henry, has summoned the Chairman and Managing Director of the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, Paul Abrahams, to an emergency meeting over the weekend.
According to a release from the ministry, Henry, who is off the Island attending an International Transport Conference in Miami, said he has called the meeting in order to be properly briefed on the recent contractual issues engulfing the bus company.
Henry, who will return to the island this evening, said he also welcomes the probe of the Contractor General at the JUTC, because he is a firm believer in transparency and fair play. He says the operations of the JUTC must be above board and be able to withstand the glare of public scrutiny.
The State-run bus company on Wednesday denied claims by the Opposition People’s National Party (PNP) that it had issued a contract to a local security firm in breach of public procurement rules.

According to Abrahams, the claim by the PNP was “pure mischief”.
He said a release from the Opposition spokesman on transport and works Mikael Phillips on Wednesday was misleading, and that the JUTC would clarify the matter.
