THE police now have one person in custody following Wednesday night’s double murder of a PNP councillor/caretaker and her son at their home in Clarendon.

According to the Clarendon police, Carol Ebanks, who was a councillor/caretaker for the May Pen North Division, was in her grocery shop on Wednesday when she was pounced upon by armed men who opened gunfire at her.

After hearing her cries for help, her son, Jehvon Myles, reportedly went to her assistance. He was also shot. The two succumbed to their injuries, the police said.

The police have so far identified two possible motives for the double murder.

Speaking with the Jamaica Observer yesterday, head of the Police Area Three, which includes the parish of Clarendon, Assistant Commissioner of Police Clifford Chambers said the main motive appears to be a domestic dispute involving the councillor/caretaker that went bad. The domestic matter is before the courts.

He said another motive for the attack appears to be her deceased son’s alleged criminal association.

In the meantime, the police are urging the public to remain calm.

“People are not being arbitrarily murdered,” the assistant commissioner of police told the Observer yesterday.
