Let’s go dancing with Siempre Bueno in Reggae Trophy feature
Siempre Bueno, who was out of place going seven and a half furlongs (1,500m) against the likes of Will In Charge, Seeking My Dream and Bigdaddykool on last, should now find his footing and lead home rivals in the $1.3-million Reggae Trophy feature at Caymanas Park today.
Siempre Bueno led the field for most of the joutney before giving way at the two-furlong (400m) pole to finish in seventh position by 16 1/2 lengths, but seems to love this five-fulrong (1,000m) straight distance of the Reggae Trophy. From this convenient mark Siempre Bueno will have to be caught, as this is the perfect trip for the six-year-old chestnut hold.
However, it won’t be a walk in the park for the Anthony Nunes trainee as there are the likes of two-time Horse of the Year and Diamond Mile winner Seeking My Dream, champion sprinter Chace The Great, and the consistent Money Magnet for Siempre Bueno to contend with in the seven-horse field.
The improving Mr Universe and the searching-for-form Campesino will play their play, while Perfect Neighbour will be left behind in this quick sprint.
Positioned as the sixth event on the 11-race card, the Reggae Trophy, a Grade One event for three-year-olds and upward, will go to post at 2:55 pm, with proceedings to gallop off at noon.
Known for speed and more speed, Siempre Bueno will have rivals off their legs as soon as Michael Simms flies the starting gates in what should be a titanic duel for top honours in this one. Siempre Bueno last ventured over today’s distance on March 7 with a rousing one-and-a-half length win in 57.3 on his bit. If he is anywhere near that blistering run, then it would simply mean victory for the Market Rally off-spring.
Since returning form a six-month break due to health issues earlier this year, Seeking My Dream has done quite well so far in his three starts for the season. He has one win, a second and a third from his outings. Though he would have preferred it a little longer, Seeking My Dream is no chicken over the five-straight (1,000m), as in July of last year he had finished in second position behind Campesino in 59.2.
Seeking My Dream, therefore, is not without a chance here, but the six-year-old chestnut horse has to be at the top of his game.
Chace The Great has yet to find the winners’ enclosure this season from his three starts. The Dwight Chen trainee has two second-place finishes and one third, with all being close finishes. Chace The Great has not raced over the five-straight (1,000m) course for a while, but he is not uncomfortable with the distance either. Having worked well coming into this race, galloping 59.4 for five furlongs (1,000m) with four furlongs (800m) done in 46.0, Chace The Great could find himself in the winners’ enclosure at the end of the race.
With her holding her own in races, Money Magnet is genuine and consistent and as usual with her talent and class she is going to be there when this race is being decided. Money Magnet is what they called the dark horse in this one.
Also on tap will be the Jamaica Racehorse Trainers’ Association Trophy — a Restricted Allowance event going six furlongs (1,200m) for a purse of $900,000.
Fourteen runners have been declared, with the likely winner to come from Fly First Class, Formal Gladiator, Reggae Road or Sir Jhunjhun Wala.
