KINGSTON, Jamaica — The National Water Commission (NWC) says the theft of three Jamaica Public Service Company (JPSCo) transformers in Portmore, St Catherine over the weekend has resulted in the disruption of water supply in areas supplied by its Goshen Pen system.

As a result, service has been disrupted in several areas including Greater Portmore, Naggo Head, Old Braeton, Congreve Park, Silverstone, Portmore Pines, Monza, West Cumberland, Daytona and Ascott.

The NWC said it is now asking for the understanding and cooperation of residents in the affected areas as they continue investigations into this and other thefts in recent weeks.

The commission also said it is making arrangements for the replacement of seven other transformers that were recently stolen from the Government Park Well #2 facility, also in Portmore and connected to the Goshen Pen System.

It said the theft of the 10 electrical transformers over two weeks has effectively denied it access to approximately four million gallons of daily water production capacity and disrupted service to thousands of customers.

It expressed that the brazen theft of these essential electrical components connected to the water supply system is particularly crippling, adding that it will be implementing security measures to address the problem.
