STGC vs STATHS, KC vs Mona headline Manning Cup fixtures
The Group A encounter between St George’s College and St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) at Winchester Park is one of the highlights as the ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup continues today.
St George’s College, who won the Manning Cup four times in five seasons between 2008 and 2012, lead the group with a perfect 12 points from four games.
They recorded victories over Cedar Grove Academy, Cumberland High, Tarrant High and Papine High, but today’s top-of-the-table test against STATHS could prove their toughest yet.
STATHS, who lifted the Manning Cup in 1987 and were losing finalists last season, are second in the group with 10 points. They only surrendered their unblemished start in 2018 during a drawn result against Cumberland last time out.
In other Group A matches today, fourth-placed Tarrant (four points) entertain fifth-placed Papine (three), while third-placed Cumberland (five) host cellar team Cedar Grove, who are yet to gain a point.
Four other groups will be active today.
In Group F, five-time defending champions Jamaica College (JC), who have 10 points from four games, are expected to make light work of hosts and last-placed team Kingston High (zero points).
Hydel, who lead Group F ahead of JC due to a superior goal difference, are to visit third-placed Vauxhall High (three points), while fourth-placed Campion College (zero points) host fifth-placed Kingston Technical (zero points).
In Group B, the clear feature game is between Mona High and Kingston College (KC) at the former’s base.
Both teams are flying with four wins from as many outings, but KC’s whopping tally of 28 goals, plus a yet-to-be breached defensive unit make them undoubted favourites.
Mona have mostly slid beneath the radar, scoring six goals while conceding just once, but are not to be taken lightly.
The standout fixture in Group D will take place in Portmore, where third-placed Bridgeport High (six points) will welcome leaders St Jago High (10 points).
In Group E, St Catherine High, who lead with nine points from three games, are tipped to stay perfect when they travel to third-placed Haile Selassie High (four).
