Wounded Tivoli brace for Mount Pleasant backlash
Following their first defeat of the season, Tivoli Gardens will mount an unpleasant welcome for Donovan Duckie and his St Ann marauders into the heart of Kingston for the very first time at Edward Seaga Sports Complex, starting at 3:30 pm.
Tivoli Gardens, who had their unbeaten record snapped by Arnett Gardens last Monday night, face a Mount Pleasant team also looking to rebound following their 0-1 loss to fellow promoted team, Dunbeholden in the last round.
Tivoli Gardens are joint top on nine points but second in the league on goal difference ,while Mount Pleasant sit just two points behind in fifth spot on seven points and are looking to leapfrog them.
Mount Pleasant are loaded with talent and, after announcing themselves to the league with victories over last season’s top two teams in Portmore United and Waterhouse, they were brought back down to earth by fellow promoted team Dunbeholden last week.
Tivoli Gardens, who won their first three games, were also brought down to earth by fierce rivals Arnett Gardens and, just like Mount Pleasant, will be eager to rebound in style.
With their talisman Jermaine Johnson not back from surgery, Tivoli Gardens have found a match-winner in Colorado Murray who has two goals to his name thus far, and they will be backed up by the skilful Howard Morris along with Marvin Stewart, Roderico Wellington, captain Barrington Pryce and Sean Coleman.
Mount Pleasant will be depending on Devon Hodges, Cardel Benbow, Kemar Beckford, Ronaldo Rodney and Ricardo Campbell for victory.
Meanwhile, leaders Arnett Gardens, on nine points, travel to sixth-placed The University of the West Indies (UWI) on seven points and are looking to maintain top spot or even extend their advantage. On the other hand, UWI could leapfrog Arnett Gardens with a win, hence the stage is set for an epic battle.
Champions Portmore United have switched their home game against Reno from Spanish Town Prison Oval to Frome because of a clash with Dunbeholden, who will be hosting Harbour View at the same venue.
Portmore are sitting in fourth spot on seven points in a closely knitted mid-table in which three points separate first from eighth spots. The champions tackle a Reno team down in 10th spot on three points.
There could be a bruising battle royal at WesPow Park as Montego Bay United host Humble Lion. Montego Bay United are lying in seventh spot on seven points while Humble Lion are second from bottom in 11th with two points, and are hunting their first win of the season.
Fresh from their historic first win in the premier league, the promoted Dunbeholden hunt their second win at the expense of the struggling Harbour View at Spanish Town Prison Oval. Dunbeholden are in ninth on three points while Harbour View are at the bottom in 12th on a solitary point. Based on the form of Harbour View, Dunbeholden must be fancying their chances of another win.
On Monday, third-placed Waterhouse, on seven points, host eighth-placed Cavalier, on six points, at Drewsland starting at 8:30 pm. Waterhouse are coming off a 4-0 demolition of Harbour View followed by a 1-1 draw with Humble Lion, while Cavalier will be hoping to end their two-game losing streak.
