MAJESTY Gardens Legends pulled off a thrilling 64-62 win over Red Hills Road Real Lions to clinch their best-of-three finals 2-1 in the 2018 Sports Development Foundation/Southern Basketball Conference Howard McCatty Community Club League Championship at Calabar High School Court on Sunday.

The Legends had won Game One 66-62 played at Calabar and Real Lions won Game Two 83-64.

Jermaine Brown and Baldon Todd from the Legends were named joint MVP of the finals, while Dasean Boyd was named the MVP of the League, with Anthony White from EXED Heats the top rebounder.

Brown scored 18 points and had four assists and was supported by Boyd who got 22 points. Only Kemar McLeish got into double figures for the Lions with 19 points, six rebounds and three assists.

For winning the Championships, Legends walked away with the top prize money of $200,000, the Championship Trophy, along with gold medals.

For finishing second, Real Lions collected $100,000, a trophy and silver medals, while a third-place cash award of $25,000 each was shared between EXED Heats and St George’s Saints.

The Legends’ coach Simon Brown said it was a very good game and he was elated about the results.

“Our game plan and aim was to restrict Real Lions’ top players from scoring with a defensive tactic and it really worked in our favour. I think the players gave it their all despite the scorers being very close, but it was an all-round teamwork that pulled us through to victory,” Brown said.

He added: “Real Lions played very well as from the scoring neither team dominated the game as it was very close, but we were able to hold on an clinch the victory.”

Meanwhile, the Legends led 18-16 at the end of the first quarter, but the Lions came back strongly in the second quarter and went into the half-time break leading 33-30.

The third quarter produced a ding-dong tussle that saw the Legends regaining the lead to go to the final break leading 48-45.
