Jenelle supports DNA testing at birth
US-BASED fashion designer Jenelle Thompson has thrown her support behind the call that DNA testing should be done at birth.
Thompson believes the blame is squarely at the feet of the females.
“I am a woman, but I am not going to hold back my feelings. Some women are too promiscuous. They just go and sleep with multiple men and then the problem starts when the child resembles another man or the DNA test reveals that the child does not belong for the man who she claims is the father,” said Thompson, who is a single mother.
“It happens here in the United States, where these women pin on another man’s child on a man who did not impregnate her. Sometimes it is for financial reasons, as the real father is not financially stable — owning his own home, other assets, and a steady job. In another case, it is that she wants that man to stay with her, and so a child, assumingly for him, will force him to visit her,” she continued.
In November 2021, St James Central Member of Parliament Heroy Clarke said he wanted to bring to Parliament a motion calling for DNA testing at birth. Making his contribution to the State of the Constituency Debates in Parliament, Clarke cited a study by University Researcher Dr Herbert Gayle claiming that paternal issues contribute to Jamaica’s high rate of domestic violence, which leads to murder.
Thompson, who is of Jamaican parentage, is owner of Pennsylvania-based A’ Legends clothing line. The self-taught designer holds a degree in business from the University of Phoenix. Her clients include Vershon, Delly Ranx and Macka Diamond.
The 27-year-old plans several pop-up shops in New York in May.
