Manchester 110-5 against STETHS at lunch in Headley Cup final
MANCHESTER, Jamaica— Guided by an unbeaten 50 from captain Sanjay Walker, Manchester High were 110-5 at lunch on day one of their three-day Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/Grace Headley Cup final against St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) in Mandeville on Wednesday.
Asked to bat, Manchester High stumbled badly and were reduced to 23-3 against the bowling of Govasta Edmond (3-9).
The pacer removed Dwayne Morgan (0) LBW, and Dejaun Levy (11) and Matthew Morgan (1) bowled.
However, the powerfully built 16-year-old left-hander Brian Barnes, who smashed a century against Tacky High in the semi-final last week, shared a stand of 56 runs with his skipper to bring stability.
Barnes fell for 25 caught on the long-off boundary when he miscued a lofted drive against the leg spinner Javid Simpson (1-25).
Shaquiel Brown followed for 14 caught at square leg, playing the pull shot against the medium pace of Demar Freeburn.
Walker, a tall, well-organised right-hander, has so far faced 91 balls, hitting a six and three fours. He will resume after lunch with Rhevon Morgan, who is yet to score.
