Rural Area U16 to be decided

MAY PEN, Clarendon – The semi-finals of the ISSA Rural Area Under-16 football competition will be completed Wednesday afternoon after the final set of quarter-final games are played.

Frome Technical have already secured their spot from Zone 2 and cannot be overhauled while six teams are still in the running for the three others spots in the next round.

The winners of the four groups will advance to the semi-final set for April 26. The winner of Zone 1 will play the winner of Zone 4 and the winner of Zone 2 will play the winner of Zone 3.

The finale between the two semi-final winners has been set for April 29, three days after the semis.

The fight in two of three zones could go down to the wire with the points seeming to be up for grabs.

Garvey Maceo have run roughshod over all their competitors so far but they will face Irwin High in a Zone 3 game where both are on six points after having won their first two games played so far.

In addition to having the ‘home advantage’, Garvey Maceo have also scored nine goals in the second round and conceded just once against the Irwin High team that has managed just three goals scored in their last two games.

A draw would be sufficient for Garvey Maceo who would advance on a better goal difference over the St James school.

Glenmuir High had their first slip up of the season when they were held scoreless by St James High and must beat Zone 4 leaders Manchester High at home on Wednesday if they are to extend their season.

Manchester High have been quietly efficient and lead with six points. They need only a point to book a top-four spot and have yet to concede a goal in the second round.

Zone 1 leaders Cornwall College, who have won both games played by 2-1 margins, will be home to last-placed Charlemont High who have nothing but pride to play for.

A point would be good for Cornwall College but if they slip up and Clarendon College, who they had beaten, gets a big enough win over Christiana High, they would be the ones advancing.

Games today:
