Nine-man Arnett beat Dunbeholden in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Despite being reduced to nine players, Arnett Gardens held on to beat Dunbeholden United 1-0 in their second round Jamaica Premier League game played at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex on Sunday.
It was the second time this season that Arnett Gardens had won a game despite having two players sent off, the other time was in their first round 3-1 win over Montego Bay United on February 19.
The ‘Junglists’ have picked up nine red cards in 13 games since that win over MBU. On Sunday, Ajuma Johnson was shown a straight red card for his stomp on Demario Phillips in the 24th minute while Earle Simpson was sent off in the 67th minute after getting his second yellow of the game.
Romeo Guthrie, who scored in Arnett’s 2-2 draw against MBU last weekend, got the winner on Sunday when he fired home in the ninth minute.
The win saw third place Arnett Gardens improve to 35 points, still four behind Dunbeholden who were losing a game for the first time in 10 matches.
